Documentation for PIXPRO II
Written and conceived by Sam Gueydan
Pixpro sprung out of a need to convert PI2 pictures made by
hardware scanners (such as Naverone, The Hand Scanners,
computereyes and VIDI ST) for use as clipart.
These pictures have, good contrast (Usually Line-type art) but,
because they are several colours, (in this case 4) when printed
by desktop applications, they tend to have very fuzzy edges, and
indistinct and blurred detail. Pixpro fixes this problem by
processing the picture data, so that the colour register that
prints solidly, is masked over the other colours making a
slightly darker, but fully useful clipart.
To start. You must run pixpro from medium resolution, If you do
not you will receive a message informing you of this. Run the
program and click past the opening credits. The fileselector
will come up. Choose the picture you wish to load.
Clicking on Cancel will end the program and exit to the desktop.
The picture will come up, and you will notice that the picture
colours have changed to white,Magenta(Red),Cyan (Printer's Blue),
and black. You will then be prompted for the contrast of the
picture.
If the picture is mostly Black or all black, click on 'Light'
If the picture is mostly Black and Cyan, click on 'Average'
if the picture is mostly red, click on 'Dark'
If the picture is an even mix, you'll have to experiment to get
the right mix.
the picture will began to change to red, going from left to
right. A bar on the extreme bottom (Coloured Cyan) shows the
progress. White is not changed, so it may take a bit to see any
difference. The picture is changed to red-one colour, which is
the highest register(#3). I could not use black because of the
strange way the colours are set up in the ST......
But don't worry, the picture will be saved with the old
palette intact.
While the picture is being processed, pressing 'SPACE' will
stop processing and take you back to the Contrast select box
(Processing will start over from the beginning)
Pressing 'ESC' will take you back to the fileselector to load a
different picture.
Once the picture is processed, another fileselector will come up,
and you can enter the name you wish to save your processed
picture as.
Once saved, you will then go back to the Load Fileselector, to
load another picture or exit.
